RECORD ATTENDANCE FOR 15TH ANNUAL RISE 'N SHINE ROAD RACE
Mark L. Johnston, President & CEO of Kennebec Savings Bank, announced record attendance at the 15th Annual Rise ‘n Shine 5K Road Race held Friday, September 26, 2008 at sunrise (6:31am). The event, now in its 15th year, historically attracts approximately 100 runners and walkers primarily from central Maine. Johnston, an avid runner himself (and one of the many who have run each year since the race’s creation) says he’s been overwhelmed by the support of the race, particularly over the past two years. “This event serves two purposes for us at Kennebec Savings Bank,” he said. “The obvious one is that it helps to provide much needed funding to a very important organization in our community – the Kennebec Valley YMCA. The other is that it is an opportunity for community members to get together toward a cause, and to have a good time while doing it!”
This year’s race brought in record attendance with a total of 195 pre registrants and over 30 day registrants. Its combined total made it the largest Rise ‘N Shine race ever in its 15 year history and one of the largest races in Central Maine.
Mark Yerrick, Executive Director for the Kennebec Valley YMCA, the event’s benefactor, said “My thanks to the many volunteers who worked the event, but especially, Kennebec Savings Bank for their 15 year partnership with the KV YMCA. Most importantly, all of the proceeds from the event help support scholarships and programs for youth and families at the Kennebec Valley YMCA. I look forward to next year with hopes of setting a new participant record.”
