PUMPKIN CONTEST WINNERS NAMED AT WINTHROP BUSINESS AFTER HOURS
On Thursday, October 29, Kennebec Savings Bank (KSB) hosted the annual Winthrop Area Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. For six consecutive years KSB has held the event at the Winthrop Branch on Main Street.
For the past four years, a pumpkin contest for local children was incorporated into the Business After Hours. Twenty pumpkins were brought to the KSB Branch to be displayed throughout the day and to be voted upon by the business leaders during the event. Each pumpkin was unique, making the environment festive for the holiday.
Matt Dwyer, Winthrop Branch Manager of KSB, spoke of the event, “We enjoy inviting community people into our building to socialize and build relationships. The staff looks forward to this each year.”
With approximately eighty local business people in attendance, the event was a success. Head Teller, Sandy Burgess, said, “It always amazes me so many local people come out for this event. It’s just a great way to connect.”
Children from the ages of six to seventeen were eligible to participate in the pumpkin contest, and were divided into two categories. Morgan Beland, age eleven, winner of the six to eleven-year-old age group, carved her pumpkin into a “Jack O Burger” to resemble a hamburger. Beland was awarded with $100 dollars in Chamber Cash. The second place prize of $50 in Chamber Cash was awarded to nine-year-old Casey Cloutier and the “Mouse Hotel”, while the third place prize of $25 in Chamber Cash went to eight-year-old Hana Caprara and her “Whooo’s Whoo” pumpkin.
Third time first place winner of the twelve to seventeen-year-old age group was India Pickett, age thirteen, with a “Hippie Van.” Second place was given to sixteen-year-old Molly Lindsey, who carved her pumpkin into a “Haunted Forest.” There was a two-way tie for third place between Samantha Ladd and Kevin Chamberland, both age twelve, carving a “Drac O Lantern” and a “Midnight Cat” respectively. The prizes awarded were the same as the younger age group. Amanda Burke’s “Self Portrait” also received Honorable Mention status.
Kennebec Savings Bank congratulates all the winners and thanks them for their participation.
