Investment Management Accounts

We will work closely with you in defining your needs and objectives to develop an investment plan to help reach your goals. It is our responsibility to manage your money and to monitor your investments, making sure that they remain in step with your changing needs. As custodians, we arrange for the execution of all security transactions, collect interest and dividends, adjust your account for stock splits and dividends and produce tax reports for you or your accountant. If you wish, we will also make periodic remittances or direct deposits to your Kennebec Savings Bank accounts and provide for payment of bills as well.

Investment Advisory Accounts

An Investment Advisory Account has all the features of a full Investment Management account, with the exception of investment authority on the part of the professional advisor. If you want to make your own investment decisions but still have the option to seeking advice from a professional manager, this is the account for you. You can benefit from our expertise and full-time involvement in the financial markets for an integrated approach to your investments.

Trusts

A trust is a legal transfer of your property to a trustee in order to accomplish a specific plan, before or after your death. A trust may also be established to provide tax benefits to both you and your heirs. Your trustee is in charge of managing your assets and executing your plan.

We can counsel you on the advantages of a variety of trust options --- revocable, irrevocable or testamentary - so that you will be better prepared to discuss the implementation of a trust with your attorney and/or your accountant. As your trustee, we can combine our investment management expertise with our experience in administering trust plans.

Custodial Accounts

If you want to consolidate all of your investment assets into one account for safekeeping and convenience, we can serve as your custodian. We will follow your directions in executing trades, collect dividends and interest and provide you with tax information on all of your account activity. You make your own investment decisions, utilizing your own resources.

IRA Rollovers

At retirement, or on the occasion of a change in employment, you may be faced with the decision of how to handle an existing retirement fund. You can continue to protect the tax-deferred advantages of your retirement money by establishing an IRA. Or, if you have an existing IRA, we can explore investment alternatives with you.

Portfolio Planning/Management

We apply the same standards of care and quality to our investment strategies as we do in all other areas of operation; our investment approach is systematic, disciplined and consistent. Our primary objective is to meet the individual goals of each client, within the client's limit for risk, current income and capital appreciation.

The cornerstones of our investment management process are:

  • The development of long-term relationships with our clients.
  • Frequent communication with our clients.
  • Ongoing awareness of the investment environment.
  • The ability to respond quickly to changes in the investment environment.
  • A long-term focus.
  • An emphasis on high quality investments in all investment types: cash, equities and fixed-income.

We carefully structure our portfolio management process to ensure that we effectively meet our clients' needs and expectations. We establish an investment portfolio plan with each client which:

  • determines client objectives for risk, capital appreciation and income;
  • defines the most appropriate investment types that will meet those objectives;
  • identifies the most effective investment vehicles to provide optimum results; and
  • provides ongoing communications with the client, including the status of, and rationale for, various investment strategies and regular reports on portfolio performance.

Asset allocation, which is a mixture of asset types in an investment portfolio, is a critical factor in achieving your desired return on investment. The combination of cash, equities and fixed-income securities, tailored to each client's objectives, helps to balance risk versus return and attain the desired financial results. We strive to provide our clients with portfolios that have the asset mixture and diversification to be effective over the longer term, even with fluctuations in the investment markets.

We believe that the major determinant of effective stock portfolio performance is consistent growth of earnings. We maintain and actively monitor lists of quality stocks which we make selections for client portfolios. Our lists include more than 75 of the largest market capitalized domestic companies and most of these selections can be found within the S & P 500.

We have specific criteria by which we evaluate potential stock investments:

  • companies that have dominant and preeminent market share within their industries;
  • companies with national and international brand recognition; and
  • companies with consistent records of steadily increasing earnings at or exceeding their peer group.

We also have extensive research capabilities so that we can remain aware of the performance of our selected stock picks and identify market inefficiencies and valuation discrepancies that may identify other investment opportunities in certain small and mid-cap companies.

These Investments are:

  • not a deposit;
  • not FDIC insured;
  • not guaranteed by the bank;
  • not insured by any Federal Government agency;
  • subject to loss of value.
